Sweet Home Gingerbread Competition Rules 2024
Overview:
Create and decorate an edible gingerbread house, structure, or scene. Feel free to think outside the box—there’s a judging category for the most creative idea! Pre-baked gingerbread kits are acceptable; however, the judges will deduct points for not baking the gingerbread yourself.
Rules:
Materials:
All elements of the entry must be edible except lights (which must be battery-operated) and the base on which the structure sits.
No glue or other adhesives—only edible materials can be used for construction and decoration.
We recommend using a strong base but keep in mind that bases will not be returned if the house is included in the auction.
Construction:
The entry must be entirely completed by the contestant unless participating in the group category.
Parental help is allowed only for the group category and when melting candies for safety reasons. Parents are encouraged to supervise and instruct in all other cases rather than directly assist.
Auction Participation:
If you choose to participate in the silent auction, your gingerbread creation will be sold to the highest bidder. The proceeds will be sent to you or to the address you provide on your application.
Size Requirements:
The base of your entry must not exceed 22" by 22" in size, and the structure cannot be more than 3 feet in height.
Entry Details:
The contest is open to the public and is FREE to enter. Pre-registration is requested.
All entries must be delivered to Sweet Home City Hall at 3225 Main Street on Saturday, November 30th between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Judging will begin after 4:15pm. Entries received after 4:00pm will not be accepted.
On-site creation of entries is not permitted; however, minor repairs at the time of delivery are allowed.
Display and Pickup:
Entries will be displayed at Sweet Home City Hall on November 30th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
If you do not want your entry auctioned, it must be picked up by 7:00pm on November 30th. Any unclaimed entries will be discarded. Family or friends may pick up your house on your behalf.
Photography and Publicity:
By participating, all contestants agree that photos or likenesses of their entries may be used for promotion, publicity, or advertising without compensation.
Liability:
The City of Sweet Home and The Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce are not responsible for theft, damage, acts of nature, or destruction of entries.
The organizers reserve the right to refuse any entries deemed inappropriate for display. This includes but is not limited to, entries that are political, contain personal attacks, use vulgar language, or feature obscene images.
