Mark your calendars and join us April 6 on our annual Walk for the Cause to raise awareness and encourage reporting of child abuse wherever and whenever it occurs. The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with brief presentations followed by a march and refreshments. Linn County had 461 substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect in Linn County during 2022, the last year for which data is compiled and available. Some 48.5 percent of those children were six or younger, with nearly 11 percent less than one year old. Across the state in 2022, 19 children died from causes related to familial or caregiver abuse or neglect. Fifteen of those who died were five or younger, and 10 were less than a year old. Fifteen deaths resulted from neglect, four from abuse and one from neglect and abuse. Please watch here for additional details, updates and reminders.
